Draycott E Continue to Struggle
Without a win so far this season, Draycott E
must have been quietly optimistic about their
chances of erasing that statistic during the visit
of fellow-strugglers, New Venture L.
However, the Draycott team got off to the worst
possible start, losing the first 5 matches of the
fixture. Bill
Mason was edged out in the 5th game of his match
with Gary Marson
before Sam Maltby
was routinely dispatched in straight games by Ciaran
Tynan. Tim McGrath fought back from 2 games down to
force a deciding end against Liam Tynan, but narrowly
lost the 5th (8-11). Ciaran Tynan continued his good
form to defeat Bill 3-1 and Marson beat Tim 3-0.
With a draw the best that they could now hope
for, Draycott E finally got on the scoreboard with Sam’s
11-5, 11-7, 11-1 drubbing of Liam Tynan but a 1-3 defeat
in the doubles extinguished any hope of a tie.
Ciaran Tynan completed his night’s work with
another emphatic win, disposing of Tim 3-0 before Bill
beat Liam Tynan and Sam earned an unlikely consolation
point for the home team by overcoming Marson in 3
straight ends to make the final score 3-7.

Crushing Defeat for Draycott C
Paul Hanson
and Terry
Cotterill suffered a disappointing Premier
division loss at the hands of City Hospital A. Their
cause wasn’t helped by the unavailability of a third
player but with the exception of Paul’s 3-1 win over
Hon Choy, the rest of the matches that were played
were fairly one-sided defeats.
Tony Williams and Steve Horsfield won both of
their singles matches in straight games and combined to
beat Paul and Terry in the doubles 3-1, while Choy won
his other match against Terry, also by a score of 3-1.
The comprehensive 9-1 defeat (including the 3 walkovers)
keeps Draycott in trouble near the foot of the table.

Valuable Win for Draycott D
After going 2-0 down to New Venture F, Draycott
D fought back to win 6 of the following 7 matches to
gain 3 important competition points as the team
endeavours to stay well clear of relegation from
Nottingham’s division 2.
Steve
Fowkes
lost the opener to Grant Woolley and
Mark Surry
followed suit, going down 6-11 in the 5th game to Steve
Cooper. Gareth
Hickling began the fight-back by beating John
Wilkinson 3-1 before Steve inflicted a 3-2 defeat upon
Cooper.
Gareth beat Woolley (also in 5 ends) to give the Draycott
the lead for the first time. Mark kept the momentum
going with a comprehensive 3-0 defeat of Wilkinson and
then teamed up with Steve to win a highly competitive
doubles match (11-8, 7-11, 8-11, 11-8, 11-9).
Gareth lost to Cooper in 4 but Steve’s routine win over
Wilkinson made the points safe before the final
match.... Although you wouldn’t have thought it was a
“dead rubber” from the way Mark and Grant Woolley fought
tooth-and-nail to win it. Mark eventually fell 10-12 in
the 5th end.

"A" Team Drop Points
Draycott A had their first draw of the season
against a rugged New Venture C team in the Premier
division.
David
Arrowsmith won his first two matches against Alan Philpott and Mark Pearson
in straight games.
Stuart
McIntyre and
Emma Vickers
both lost their opening matches (against Chris
Rogers and Mark Pearson respectively) but were able
to turn things around for their second matches,
giving Draycott a 4-2 lead going into the doubles.
The pairing of David and Emma was defeated 1-3
but when Emma came out on top of her 5-end contest
with Alan Philpott to put her team up 5-3, a home
win looked on the cards. The talented junior was
victorious 10-12, 11-9, 11-7, 10-12, 11-5. Sadly,
Stuart lost in four to Pearson and David suffered
his first singles reversal of the night against
Rogers.
