Nearly
ten years later the club had to again look for new
premises as the Old Community Hall was to be sold and
eventually located a new hall in the nearby village of
Draycott and so the club was about to embark on its
biggest challenge yet.
The
Old Boxing Gym on New Street had massive potential to be
the club’s new home but it was in a very dilapidated
condition and would need a great deal of work to make it
suitable for table tennis. The hall was just big enough
to put up four match tables and six tables for coaching
purposes.
The
Draycott & Long Eaton Table Tennis Club acquired the building from the dissolved
Draycott
Youth Club and gained the leasehold of the land from the local Draycott Parish
Council who
have been so impressed with the clubs commitment to improving the facilities.
The
club was now starting its 10th season but had to survive
the season in a hall that had poor lighting and no
heating but the club developed a new squad of young
players and so began a new era for the club, which
renamed itself the Draycott & Long Eaton Table Tennis
Club to reflect its new location.
However in 2003 the club began the process for a
successfully bid for a grant from the Community Club
Development Fund and in March 2006 work started on a
£410,000 Extension and Refurbishment of the club’s
facilities.
The
club is now an ETTA Premier Club (Advanced Level) and is
also a Clubmark Accredited Club |
